THE Petauke Magistrates’ Court on Thursday adjourned to September 25 for mention and trial the case for a 28-year-old man allegedly behind the infamous Petauke obscene video. The video, which went viral last week, has been widely condemned by Zambians, with several of them saying it was demeaning to the women.
In a one minute, 40 seconds video, Rodgers Mwanza is seen poking the private parts of a woman who was seemingly unconscious. Police later apprehended Mwanza in connection with matter and has since been jointly charged with 29-year-old Dominic Banda, who is purported to be the victim’s boyfriend.
The two have been charged with indecent assault on a female and production and circulation of obscene material with intent to corrupt public morals and production and circulation of obscene material contrary to the Laws of Zambia. Both Mwanza and Banda pleaded not guilty to the first count of indecent assault on a woman when the matter came for plea and mention before magistrate Ackson Mumba on Thursday.
On the two counts of production and circulation of obscene material with intent to corrupt public morals, the state awaits instructions from the DPP’s office. The court also refused to grant the two accused persons bail as the offence committed was so serious and that having them released would make them interfere with the witnesses.
