Growing interest in hockey impresses coach

A HOCKEY coach says boys and girls have continued to show the zeal for the sport.

Ten teams on Saturday took part in the U15 Teulings Hockey League games at Lusaka’s Olympic Youth Development Centre.

Bright Boys, Ark Boys, Evergreen, ShiningStars1, Black Stars, Black Boys, City and Shining 1, are some of the teams that played the weekend “7-aside” Teulings games.

All the teams were selected from communities surrounding the Olympic Youth Development Centre.

A hundred players formed the 10 teams preparing for the 2018 Teulings Youth Sport Challenge “Grand Finale” set for October 27.
Coach Miundayi Makayi said the turnout was impressive.

“The boys and girls have continued to show the zeal for the sport of hockey. They are inspired with the U18 male hockey team which is currently in Argentina for the Summer Youth Olympic Games,” he said according to the OYDC website.

Makayi urged parents to allow children to find their way to OYDC after school hours to take up hockey or other sports at the centre.
