PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has pardoned over 300 prisoners from various correctional facilities across the country.

Disclosing this to the media in Lusaka, Minister of Home Affairs Steven Kampyongo said the president had released the prisoners in accordance with the independence commemorations.

“To commemorate the 54th independence anniversary, the President of the Republic of Zambia and commander-in-chief of the defence forces, His Excellency, Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu has today the 24th of October 2018 exercised his prerogative of mercy on three hundred and one inmates, including seven old inmates based in various correctional facilities throughout the Republic of Zambia,” Kampyongo said today.

The minister however did not disclose the identities of those released but said the names would be made available to the media once the gazette is published by Government Printers.
