ADVANTAGE Insurance staff yesterday donated blankets to Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital (LMTH) and cleaned some wards.
Company chief executive officer Raymond Chella led the team in sweeping, mopping and dusting the maternity ward at the hospital.
Chella said people must be kindhearted towards members of their communities.
He said the beginning of love was giving to the community and that Advantage Insurance was paying back to the community.
“We are human beings and every human being at some point got to have empathy for the community. So it is basically from that point of view. It is important that once in a while, you just feel for the community and do what you can to just help the community in whatever way you can,” Chella said. “To the Zambian people, I think we should show love to each other and love starts from giving.”
He said doing good to serve mankind was better than the cost it attracted.
“This programme is an ongoing programme we have started here today at Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital. Our next destination will be UTH, thereafter we will move to Kitwe, Solwezi and lastly Kasama. This is just in a small way to appreciate the public and in this small way, we just thought of doing something that is worthy a cause. We chose Levy maternity ward because that is where life comes from and we believe all of us came from this particular area in the hospital,” said Chella.
“It is an ongoing programme, we can’t put a cost to it but it is something we will be doing on a regular basis. Cost doesn’t really matter to us but it is what we are doing for the community on the regular basis that matters most. So like I mentioned, it is just a gesture that we do with no cost to it. What you spend doesn’t really matter; it is what you have done that matter most.”
