MEMBERS of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) in Southern Province have demanded the immediate dismissal of provincial minister Edify Hamukale. Hamukale is accused of working to weaken party structures in the province so that members can later defect to opposition UPND. The demands and accusations on Hamukale were made in a statement issued by the PF Southern Province Executive Committee.
According to the statement issued by provincial information secretary Trymore Mwenda, the executive committee made the resolution during a meeting held on Saturday at SWASCO offices in Choma and chaired by party provincial secretary Brenda Munashabantu.
“The ruling PF Southern Province Executive Committee has resolved that Provincial Minister, Edify Hamukale be relieved of his duties for bringing the name of the Party and Republican President His Excellency President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu into ridicule and disrepute,” the statement reads in part. “The committee further appealed to the President to appoint people within the structures [of the party] to lead government in Southern Province for they would understand the suffering of the grassroots.”
The committee demanded that Hamukale be fired for working against the party in Southern Province and for destroying the gains achieved and for washing dirty linen in public. They said Hamukale’s continued stay as the minister in office was subtracting from the party’s growth.
“The provincial government official have [sic] never supported the party which ushered them in their offices, his secret mission has been to ground the party structures and migrate to the opposition UPND where they came from to help his failed leader Hakainde form government in 2041,” the statement read further.
Hamukale was unavailable to comment on the matter as his mobile phone was off by press time.
