THE UPND yesterday claimed that President Edgar Lungu has instructed the police to arrest Hakainde Hichilema and his vice-president Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba on trumped-up charges.
But UPND Lusaka Province chairman Obvious Mwaliteta said the party will not allow a repeat of what happened to Hichilema after the road rage incident in Western Province last year.
“We wish to inform the UPND family and the general public that we have been reliably informed that Edgar Lungu has instructed the Inspector General of Police to arrest our president Hakainde Hichilema and his vice-president Dr Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba on trumped-up charges today (yesterday),” he said.
“We wish to notify the citizens that we are not moved by such malicious schemes. They are simply a demonstration of a failed state. We urge the UPND family to remain alert and focused, victory is assured!”
Mwaliteta said the UPND expected President Lungu to instead expeditiously address the failed economy, alleged Chinese takeover of some companies and indiscriminate acquisition of land.
“We wish to promise the nation that UPND remains committed to fixing the economy and bringing back Zambia’s economy to where it is supposed to be. God bless the UPND leadership, God bless Zambia. Victory over oppression and poor governance is indeed coming tomorrow,” said Mwaliteta.
