23 Kitwe residents plead not guilty to rioting and injuring of a building charges

 

TWENTY-THREE people have pleaded not guilty before the Kitwe Magistrates’ Court for offences of rioting and injuring of a building contrary to the Laws of Zambia. Twelve suspects in John Mulikita, 25, Mwewa Bwalya, 24, Teza Simukaze, 28, Chewe Simpasa, 28, Oggy Mwanza (32), Lawrence Mumba (23), Joseph Mulenga (25), Reagan Bwalya (25), Begini Mwamba (31), Mary Kalenga and Damalesi Ngambi, both 29, are charged with rioting contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

Allegations are that the 12 on November 5, 2018, in Kitwe, jointly and whilst acting together did take part in a riot and breached the peace and terrorised the public. In count two, the 12 are also charged with injuring of a building contrary to the Laws of Zambia. Allegations are that on November 2018, the 12 in Kitwe jointly and whilst acting together riotously assembled together and unlawfully damaged a building namely Lingsaing investments valued at K5,000. And appearing before magistrate Leonard Tembo for plea, 11 accused persons pleaded not guilty to the offences.

Nicodemus Mukangwa, Mathews Mushasha, Brian Malonga, Kennedy Bwalya, Brian Simfukwe, Christopher Mkandawire, Marvin Chibuye, Peter Mukangwa, Peter Mukuma and Davis Chisanga are charged with injuring a building contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

Allegations are that on November 5, 2018 in Kitwe jointly and whilst acting together, being riotous, assembled together and unlawfully damaged a building namely Xingmay Supermarket, the property of Guy Kalumba valued at K5,000.

The 11 accused persons pleaded not guilty to the offence. Magistrate Tembo has since adjourned the two matters December 7, for commencement of trial.

Magistrate Tembo has also granted all the 23 accused persons bail in the sum of K5,000 in their own recognisance and one working surety.
