POLICE in Chadiza district have arrested a 28-year-old teacher for defiling a 13-year-old grade seven pupil in a toilet.
And a resident of Paramount Chief Mpezeni has died in an ox-cart accident.
Eastern Province police commissioner Luckson Sakala confirmed the arrest of Lynn Phiri, a teacher at Mwangazi Primary School in chief Mwangala’s area.
“We received a report of defilement from Francis Zulu, a senior teacher at the same school, that his young sister, who is aged 13 years old of the same address and a grade seven pupil at the same school, was defiled by male Lynn Phiri aged 28 years, a teacher at the same school. This occurred on November 17, 2018 at about 19:00 hours at
the house of the same reporter,” he said.
Sakala said the incident occurred when Zulu had gone to Vubwi.
“At about 19:00 hours, the suspect went to the house of the reporter, knocked on the window and the young sister to the reporter came out of the house through the window. They went to the toilet and he had carnal knowledge of the same victim. Unfortunately, one of the neighbours within the compound saw the victim when she was jumping
through the window going to the toilet together with the suspect and after finishing whatever they were doing and got back into the house
through the window,” he said.
Sakala said the neighbours reported the matter to the wife of the owner of the house.
“When the victim was called and questioned, she narrated the ordeal.
When they further questioned her she even produced a Chitenge material which they had used whilst in the toilet which had some dry semen and
that was the time when the owner of the house came back from Vubwi,” he said.
Sakala said Zulu reported the matter to Chadiza police station and the suspect was subsequently arrested and charged with defilement.
And Sakala said a nine-year-old boy of Wanga village sustained injuries and later died after he failed to jump on a moving ox-cart.
He named the deceased as Stephen Phiri who died on November 19, 2018.
“The accident occurred on November 19, 2018 at around 18:00 hours. Involved was Jonathan Mutotwe aged 50 of the same address. Also
involved was a pedestrian male juvenile Stephen Phiri aged nine years of the same address. This accident happened when the pedestrian wanted
to get on board the ox-cart from behind by way of jumping; he missed and hit on the edge of the plunk of the ox-cart forcing him to fall down,” Sakala said.
He said the boy sustained serious head injuries and was also bleeding excessively.
Sakala said the boy died on the way to Chipata Central Hospital.
He said the body of the deceased was taken to Chipata Central Hospital mortuary while police are investigating the matter.
