POLICE in Mambwe have arrested four traditional Nyau dancers for abducting and indecently assaulting a pregnant woman who strayed to their secluded place called Dambwe. Eastern Province police commissioner Luckson Sakala said the incident occurred in Kasamanda area of chieftainess Msoro’s area between 10 and 14:00 hours on November 24.
“The same Nyau dancers have been charged with abduction but one of them has also been charged with indecent assault,” he said.
Sakala said all four were currently in custody in Chipata and would appear in court soon. He said the victim was tied to a tree, undressed and one of the accused wanted to rape her but was restrained by the others. But sources revealed that the accused were first taken to chieftainess Msoro’s palace before they were handed over to police.
