Sven should leave after Namibia game – Siwale

FOOTBALL Association of Zambia (FAZ) presidential aspirant Blackwell Siwale says Chipolopolo head coach Sven Vandenbroeck should leave after the game against Namibia. Siwale said Sven had failed to deliver according to the targets he had been given in his contract. On Sunday, Sven said he would love to stay for another four years to build a solid team to oversee the 2021 AfCON as well as the Qatar 2022 FIFA world cup qualifiers.

Sven said he had a problem that soccer fans have judged him based on the AfCON result only. But Siwale said Sven had failed to qualify the Chipolopolo to the AfCON and that his last game should be the Namibia tie. FAZ unveiled Sven on July 10 with a nine-month contract that was tied to Africa Cup of Nations qualification. He started the campaign with 1-1 draw away to Namibia before beating Guinea Bissau 2-1 at home and lost away by the same margin.

Zambia lost 1-0 to Mozambique to effectively lose out on qualification to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. The Chipolopolo will play Namibia in March next year in a dead rubber fixture.

“We were told that the national team coach had been engaged solely to qualify us to the Africa Cup of Nations. If he has failed, what else must you say? You shake hands and say good bye,” Siwale said.

“The contract as far as I believe was for five games and the fifth game is when we play Namibia, so after Namibia, you shake hands and say goodbye.”

Siwale was speaking on Radio Icengelo on the Copperbelt on Monday evening.
