POWER Dynamos coach Kelvin Kaindu says his team is looking forward to the new soccer season starting next month.
Power have signed five new experienced players for the new season.
Power just returned from the training in Samfya with Kaindu saying the objective of the outing has been achieved adding that the team would conclude its six-week pre-season preparations with a friendly game in the fourth week and participate in a four-team tournament just before the season kicks off.
“So far so good, all set for the season. We just returned from Mansa, we are geared for the season, just minor, minor small injuries. We have done four weeks; we are supposed to do six weeks. We are hoping to play a friendly this weekend and play in the four-teams tournament just before the season kicks off,” Kaindu said.
Asked how important it is to retain long-serving players like Alex Ng’onga and Larry Bwalya, he said it was always good for a team to have the core of the team.
Kaindu lamented the departure of goalkeeper Allan Chibwe and midfielder Kelvin Mubanga to rivals Nkana among other players that left the club.
“Some of the games at the start of the season will be played in the rain. We have to adjust. It’s a plus to maintain Alex and Larry. It’s sad we lost goalkeeper Allan Chibwe, Kelvin Mubanga, Billy Mutale went to SuperSport, Gamphani Lungu but it’s good to have the core of the team,” he said.
Meanwhile, former National Assembly utility player Luka Chamanga, former Zesco United winger Dave Daka, former Lusaka Dynamos striker Conlyde Luchanga and former Kabwe Warriors striker Mwansa Nsofwa are all at Power Dynamos but Kaindu refused to be drawn into the discussion saying there were administrative issues that needed to be concluded but hoped that the new players would add value to the Kitwe outfit that finished sixth on the table last season.
