INDUSTRIAL Development Corporation (IDC) Group chief executive officer, Mateyo Kaluba has announced the appointment of members of the Board of Directors of Zambia Airways.
IDC public relations manager Namakau Mukelabai stated that the appointment of the board was with immediate effect.
Mukelebai stated the members include former Attorney General Bonaventure Mutale S.C., aeronautical engineer, aircraft accidents investigations specialist and aviation business executive who previously served as managing director at National Airports Corporation Robinson Misitala and Ministry of Transport and Communication permanent secretary Misheck Lungu.
She stated that the other members of the board appointed in line with the Shareholders Agreement between IDC and Ethiopian Airlines were Ethiopian Airlines Group chief executive officer Tewolde Gebre Mariam, Ethiopian Airlines vice-president marketing Rahel Assefa and Ethiopian Airlines vice-president Internal Audit & Compliance Kassim Geresu.
Mukelebai stated that an additional member of the board representing IDC would be appointed later.
She stated that the chair of the Board would be selected from the members representing the IDC.
And Kaluba said the new board would spearhead the process to operationalise Zambia Airways.
“The skills mix and vast experience of the board members gives us the confidence that we have the right team to actualise the joint investment between IDC and Ethiopian Airlines,” he said.
Kaluba said the appointment of the Board marks an important milestone in the establishment of a national airline.
“The Board will take the necessary steps to ensure all the regulatory requirements to operationalise the airline are met as well as put in place a competent management team,” he said.
He further said the board would have regular interactions with the media and the general public to ensure effective communication and information sharing with the general public.
Zambia Airways is a partnership with Ethiopian Airways.
