LUSAKA police officer Constable Lennox Kapila of Munali Police Post who was shot by his fellow officer has died.
Zambia Police public relations officer Esther Katongo confirmed Kapila’s death.
She said Kapila died between 09:00 and 10:00 hours yesterday at Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital.
Kapila on Saturday was rushed to the theatre and underwent surgery to remove the projectile from his abdomen.
One of the four surgeons that operated on him, Dr Dr Penias Tembo, said Kapila sustained multiple injuries from the gunshot.
Briefing the media after over four hours surgery on Saturday, Dr Tembo said the operation was successful but indicated that the officer was still in a critical condition.
Kapila was shot in the abdomen by Constable Edwin Kabasiya of Meanwood Kamwena Police Post after a quarrel on Friday evening, which some witnesses allege involved a woman with whom both officers claimed to be in love with.
Kabasiya is reportedly on the run armed with an AK 47 assault rifle and police have launched a manhunt.
