PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu yesterday surprised a budding artist who has drawn a portrait of him by calling her on phone.
President Lungu encouraged Mercy Gondwe to pursue her artistic passions, according to a statement by Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba.
Gondwe had drawn a detailed portrait of President Lungu.
The President called the 20-year-old artist from Chimwemwe in Kitwe and offered to buy some of her other works.
President Lungu also urged Gondwe to continue with her passion and talent and said the government was keen to promote all forms of arts in the country.
Meanwhile, foreign affairs minister Joseph Malanji donated an undisclosed amount to Gondwe.
He asked Gondwe to pick the money from his accountant in Kitwe.
President Lungu is currently in South Africa for urgent talks over the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo and for medical checks.
