COACH Beston Chambeshi says his Nkana team has to be cautious in order to preserve leadership of the log as they take on Asante Kotoko in a CAF Confederation Cup group match at Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi next Sunday.
Nkana lead Group C with six points after beating Kotoko 3-1 in the reverse fixture played on Sunday at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.
Chambeshi, who is missing two key defenders in Ghanaian Richard Okran and Kenyan Musa Mohammed, said on departure at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport yesterday that his team will still attack in Kumasi but will be cautious not to concede in the process.
“We are injury free. The boys are looking forward to this game. I am happy with the morale in the team so we are all ready for the game on Sunday. We cannot say we are going to defend. We have to play attacking football but we also have to be cautious in defence,” he said.
“I know Kotoko will play an open game. It is sad that we are missing the two defenders but I am confident that we have replacements in the team that can do the job.”
In view of the injuries, Given Sinyangwe has been recalled to the team for possible partnership with Ben Bahn or Joseph Musonda in central defence.
Nkana vice-president Patrick Njovu says the team is travelling with the confidence to win after seeing how Kotoko played in the first leg.
“We believe the boys having beaten them here will not be jittery in the return match. As an administration we have confidence in the coach and the team we are carrying to Ghana, so we believe they will deliver,” said Njovu.
The full squad comprises goalkeepers Allan Chibwe and Kelvin Malunga.
Defenders: Joseph Musonda, Ben Bahn, Given Sinyangwe, Laison Thole, Moses Nyondo and Gift Zulu.
Midfielders: Duncan Otieno, Kelvin Mubanga, Simon Bwalya, Shadreck Malambo, Fred Tshimenga, Harrison Chisala and Obed Masumbuko.
Strikers: Walter Bwalya, Ronald Kampamba, Festus Mbewe.
Zesco United, the other Zambian team in group C travels to Khartoum today to face Al Hilal in the return match.
Zesco are second on four points after they were held 1-1 by Hilal on Sunday in Ndola.
