Foreign based players to boost Chipolopolo

CHIPOLOPOLO interim coach Aggrey Chiyangi says he will sit with his technical bench and select players to include in the squad which broke camp yesterday. The Chipolopolo boys are preparing for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Namibia to be played at Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on March 23. Speaking after the team played a practice match against Airport Police FC at Nkoloma Stadium, Chiyangi said what remained was to invite foreign-based players to join those already in camp.

“So far from the time the team reported for camp, everything has gone on well. The players have responded very positively apart from one player, Alex Ng’onga, who had a knee problem but the doctors were working on him. But the rest have worked very well and it is very encouraging to see them work like this,” he said.

“We wanted to see what they can give us in a game after the four sessions that we had with them and also to see what things we need to work on after they have played as a team.”

Chiyangi added that the technical bench would include seven foreign-based players to strengthen the squad.

“We have to call some foreign-based players apart from those playing for the under-23. Those we have to leave them out, but we have other players that we have to look at. We are looking at calling six or seven players and we will sit down and see if we can invite all impressive players because they deserve a chance to show what they are capable of,” said Chiyangi.

Team assistant coach Numba Mumamba was also on the bench as the team played their friendly game.
