FORMER Super League champions Zanaco have acquired Buildcon and Chipolopolo defender Lawrence Chungu despite the transfer window being closed.
And Zanaco coach Numba Mumamba says the team is trying to employ the services of good players like Chungu who could add value to the team.
Announcing the development in Lusaka yesterday, Zanaco FC general manager Marlon Kananda said the acquisition of the defender was part of the plan to build a team that will be able to compete locally and internationally.
“We are an ambitious team. We want to have a team that can play the league and also play continental football. We won’t to use him between now and the close of the season but come August, he is a player who can add value. He may not tick this season but he has the potential, he will definitely shine the next or the other year,” Kananda said.
He added that the club had come up with seasonal ticketing which was going to allow club supporters to buy a once-off ticket to use all season.
“The club has been pondering seasonal ticketing and we came up with the figure of K1,000 and already a Mr Lawrence has paid up and he will enjoy the benefits until the close of the season. Some of the benefits for all paid-up members will include free flying if we charter a plane in international engagements. This was an outright purchase and the contract is for two years,” said Kananda.
Numba added that Lawrence had what it
took to help the team gain its original form of continental football.
“…so that he can help us go back to playing continental football where we belong. I hope he will add value to the team. He has what it takes and it’s all up to him. We want to sign quality players and there is something that we have seen in Lawrence Chungu so that he can add value to Zanaco,” said Numba.
And Chungu said; “I’m here to learn and to work. Football is not about one person but the whole team.”
Chungu played at Power Dynamos before he moved to Buildcon.
