Opposition want to use violence to force govt of national unity

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu says he is aware that some opposition want to use violence to call for a government of national unity. President Lungu said he would not allow any form of violence by some selfish individuals in the country. He said this upon arrival at the Simon Mwansa International Airport in Ndola this afternoon.

“So far up-to-date, I have not heard any report of violence and confusion in Roan. This is what we want,” President Lungu said.

He said the violence in Sesheke and Kafue was caused by the UPND, which are their strong holds.

“The shame of Sesheke and Kafue is hurting the Zambian people. That was their strong hold. So Copperbelt is our strong hold and I will hold the (PF) chairman accountable if there is violence here,” he said.

President Lungu said he was aware of the opposition who want to use violence to call for government of national unity.

“Don’t get excited with dialogue, dialogue. The opposition have nothing to lose. They want a government of national unity. But we don’t want a government of National unity. We gave them 50%+1 and if they want in 2021, we can give them 60%+1. Don’t use violence to force us to form a government of national unity. They will insult the president so that we answer and become the President. Let them insult me and I will just watch. I will not reduce [myself] to that level,” said President Lungu who will be on the Copperbelt until Thursday.
