PF can’t do without violence

What wrong has Harry Kalaba committed to be attacked by Patriotic Front cadres in that way?
It’s a well known fact that Edgar Lungu and his minions do want Harry to participate in the 2021 elections as a presidential candidate. They have done everything possible to make sure he has no political party to stand on but have failed to get his Democratic Party deregistered. And now they are resorting to physical violence against him! Why this desperation? Why this cruelty? Why this intolerance!
What is more worrying is the behaviour of the police.
Harry and his entourage were attacked at a police check point in broad daylight by a group of Patriotic Front cadres armed with pangas.
In front of police officers, the cadres blocked the road and told Harry and his entourage that they would not be allowed to enter Kasempa. They demanded that Harry should go back because they would not allow him to proceed into the town.
After 10 minutes of arguing, the cadres started smashing Harry’s car and attacking his entourage with pangas.
The police at the checkpoint watched helplessly before running away.
What type of police is this? What type of policing is this?
If this had happened to Patriotic Front leaders and cadres, these police officers would have been fired instantly.
We have not forgotten about what happened to police officers in Sesheke who risked their lives to disarm violent Patriotic Front cadres!
Indeed, as Harry says,
“these are the politics of the Patriotic Front. These are the politics that they have been practicing”.
And shockingly this violence has been admitted, defended and justified by North-Western Province Patriotic Front chairman Jackson Kungo.
“Yes, these are our cadres. North-Western Province is a no-go area for anyone who is fighting [President] Edgar Lungu. Yes, whether sent or not, we are here to protect the party. We are here to protect President Edgar Lungu. He is the President of the Republic and needs to be respected. If you fight President Lungu, we will defend him. So that Kalaba should know that North Western is a no-go area for these small parties and any opposition group,” brazenly boasted Kungo.
If this had happened to the Patriotic Front we would not stop hearing about it.
Is this the way to run a country, let alone a multiparty democracy?
It’s easy to understand why the Patriotic Front doesn’t want meaningful and genuine dialogue over the issue of violence. It can’t do without violence, lawlessness!
But this lawlessness is a double edged sword.
Violence does, in truth, recoil upon the violent, and the schemer falls into the pit which he digs for another.
It’s very clear that political violence in Zambia is planned, implemented and funded by the Patriotic Front leadership.
If Edgar wanted to end violence, he could end it instantly.
Political violence is a crime which must be treated like any other crime.
Mahatma Gandhi said, “I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent.”
And John F. Kennedy warned, “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.”
Violence is a disease, a disease that corrupts all who use it regardless of the cause.
Violence has a way of preventing us from seeing the interests it serves.
A political leader who incites violence inspires citizens towards hate and violence.
Alexander Berkman said, “Violence is the method of ignorance, the weapon of the weak. The strong of heart and brain need no violence, for they are irresistible in their consciousness of being right.”
