THE Basic Teachers Union of Zambia Kafue district branch says the profession has enough unions whose interests are well presented and adequately managed.
BETUZ Kafue district chairperson Jackson Brian Mulenga has warned teachers not to be excited with a new teacher union that was trying to register itself.
“These are just unscrupulous individuals who had gotten money from a named political leader for personal gains. We also wish to advise the same organisers to stop using the name of labour commissioner and His Excellency President Edgar Lungu in their clandestine activities,” he said. “Teachers should distance themselves from this group whose agenda is not known,” he said. “It is a desperate group of teachers trying to position themselves with the help of opposition leaders. The union in Kafue believes that we have enough unions in our profession whose interests are well presented and adequately managed. Therefore, teachers should not be cheated to resign from established unions in our teaching fraternity.”
Mulenga said teachers should remain calm as national leaders were in the process of concluding negotiations.
“We remain committed as employees to implement government policies under the President Edger Lungu’s leadership,” said Mulenga.
