WE have no time for the sham PF dialogue process, we are going out to meet our citizens, says Hakainde Hichilema.
In a statement yesterday, Hichilema thanked UPND members for the spirited fight in the just ended by-elections.
“We are now embarking on countrywide party mobilisation tours to meet our citizens. We shall not waste our time in the sham PF dialogue meetings where they want to mess up the constitution again,” Hichilema stated.
“We shall only attend the church-led dialogue process where consensus building can be assured.”
Hichilema stated that his party understands the suffering of Zambians, including law enforcement agencies, whom they expect would not obey unlawful instructions of blocking their tours.
“We urge all our structures to equally do the same and go out to mobilise ahead of our visits in your areas,” stated Hichilema.
The government is in the process of establishing a bloated National Dialogue Forum whose objective, among other things, will be to provide for a national dialogue process to facilitate the Constitution refinement and regulation of political parties, public order and electoral process reforms. The NDF will be headed by a chairperson appointed by the Republican President. The other objectives of the national dialogue (Constitution, electoral process, public order and political parties) Bill 2019, whose signatory is Attorney General Likando Kalaluka, is to establish the National Dialogue Forum and provide for its functions.
The other objective relate to facilitate implementation of the Siavonga resolutions of political parties relating to the constitutional and institutional reforms, separation of powers and judicial independence, tolerance, freedom of assembly and civility in politics and electoral reforms.
The bill went through Parliament and is now awaiting President Edgar Lungu’s assent.
