American tourist found dead at a Livingstone lodge

 

AN American tourist William Edward Spalthoff has been found dead in a lodge in unexplained circumstances.

According to police sources in Livingstone, the tourist – an Irish born but US resident – is suspected to have died from drug abuse.

“We have a male tourist by the name of the William Edward Spalthoff aged 55 years who was found dead in his room at Cafe Zambezi House of Africa lodge. This occurred in the early hours of Friday at around 03:00 hours. The body has since been deposited at Batoka Hospital mortuary…when we searched his room we found an assortment of drugs but these are yet to be verified by medical doctors and the DEC. His is an Irish born and resident in America…he actually died on his birthday according to his passport details of birth,” the police sources revealed.

When contacted for comment, police spokesperson Esther Katongo said she did not have any details of the incident and referred all queries to Southern Province Commissioner Diamond Likashi, who said police were still investigating the matter.

“We are still figuring out what happened, so as of now I can’t confirm,” he said.

Asked on the details of the deceased, Likashi said: “nothing, not yet.”
