MMD president Nevers Mumba says time has come for the former ruling party to liberate the nation. Mumba was on Monday afternoon received to a thunderous welcome in Ndola by hundreds of MMD members. Mumba, who has kicked off his nationwide tour, made his first stop in Ndola.
“On behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our party, we would like to thank all of you for your resilience and for maintaining faith in the party during its darkest times,” he said. “We would further like to inform you that our days of being in the wilderness are coming to an end as the walls of Jericho are about to fall.”
Mumba said the hour has started ticking. He said he had come to the Copperbelt to announce that it is “game over for Mutati and his faction.”
“We would further like to take this opportunity to call back all our members to our party. The hour for new hope has started ticking towards 2021 and the MMD train has today started off and will not stop until it reaches the destination of providing premium leadership to this great nation,” Mumba said.
He said the new hope hour had started ticking with the beginning of his countrywide tour of MMD structures. Earlier, Copperbelt MMD Copperbelt chairperson Denson Chisunka told Mumba that the members on the province had been waiting for a long time. He said the Copperbelt was the bedroom of the MMD. MMD national secretary Winnie Zaloumis said it was “time up” for expelled MMD member Felix Mutati.
“I would like to take this time to inform the MMD Copperbelt that the mandate which the National Executive Committee (NEC) gave me to take Mr Mutati, who remains an expelled member and his minions, to court to find out who gave them authority to organise the illegal MMD convention of 2016 is going on well,” said Zaloumis. “We have so far been awarded three costs in the High Court alone even before the court [process] finishes. The Mutati group has suffered other costs in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court. Hence the beginning of these meetings marks the political end for Mutati.”
MMD vice-president Reuben Sambo said the successful visit had proves the prophets of doom wrong.
“When some known enemies of the party heard that we were coming to the Copperbelt, they said that this event will be a flop. We bet that they are now eating their vomit as this event has been a success and it is just the tip of the iceberg,” said Sambo.
