THE Director of Public Prosecutions has granted the State consent to prosecute Lusaka Province UPND chairman Obvious Mwaliteta and another for being in possession of offensive weapons. Mwaliteta and James Sichomba are alleged to have on March 27, 2019 at Kafue jointly and whilst acting together had in their possession offensive weapons or materials. The offensive weapons were two improvised machetes, a metal hoe, a wooden pick handle, two stones and a knife without lawful excuse.
When the matter came up yesterday before magistrate Alice Walusiku, the prosecutions informed the court that the DPP has granted them consent to prosecute Mwaliteta and Sichomba as required by the law.
Mwaliteta and Sichomba, however, could not take plea because the state has sought authority to prosecute the case from Lusaka and not Kafue where the offences were allegedly committed.
The accused’s lawyers were also not present in court.
Magistrate Walusiku adjourned the matter to May 6, 2019 for mention and possible plea.
