ROAD Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) director and chief executive officer Zindaba Soko says road crashes are prominent during holidays and has urged Zambians to observe all traffic rules and regulations. Soko has urged Zambians, especially motorists, to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations during the Easter. He said noticeable cases of speed-related road traffic accidents in the country called for concerted efforts by all to avoid death and injuries that characterise many Zambian roads, especially during such holidays.
Soko identified the Great North Road as one of the corridors where recurrence of speed-induced crashes was still worrisome. He, however, assured the nation that appropriate measures were being implemented to address the menace. Soko said adequate personnel and logistics had been mobilised and a joint team of RTSA and Zambia Police officers would be deployed throughout major highways in all parts of the country. He said the agency had drawn up a proactive and tentative enforcement programme as a means of promoting road safety.
Soko said the agency would equally set up strategic spot checks for speed management and screening of drivers for drinking and driving.
