Mike Mulongoti will certainly be greatly missed in Zambian politics.
Mulongoti was a tireless political and civic activist.
Mulongoti taught us that activism begins with you, democracy begins with you, and as such you should get out there, get active.
Before you call yourself a Christian, Muslim, Hindu or any other religion, learn to be human first, to care about others, especially the poor and the weak.
Mulongoti was a great thinker who tried to reason out things. He was not a blind follower of anybody or anything. For Mulongoti any struggle that required the suspension of reason as a necessity for him supporting it was a bad struggle not deserving his support.
The notion that an activist like Mulongoti is one who hates his country is naïve and usually idiotic. He is, more likely, one who likes his country more than the rest of us, and is thus more disturbed than the rest of us when he sees it debauched. He is not a bad citizen turning to crime; he is a good citizen driven to despair.
Mulongoti has shown us that all one needs is to be like a flea against injustice. Enough committed fleas biting strategically can make even the biggest dog uncomfortable and transform even the biggest nation. In his one-man party Mulongoti was more effective in fighting injustice than parties of thousands and thousands corrupt and unprincipled elements.
Many things can be said about Mulongoti but we will it keep short.
This is not the time for such long eulogies. We leave that to the hypocrites, the liars who love the dead more than the living.
We say farewell to our tireless news source and political commentator. May his soul rest in peace.
