We’re ready – Tenant

CHIPOLOPOLO Under 23 assistant coach Tenant Chilumba says his team is ready for the second round of the AfCON qualifier against Congo Brazzaville. And Football Association of Zambia technical director Lyson Zulu has implored the team which is in camp for the qualifier to work hard and bring glory to the country.

“Everyone has reported, its only Nkana and Buildcon players who are having a game tomorrow… Looking at how we have trained, starting from yesterday (Monday), the boys looked ready, we just have to focus on the programme,” Chilumba said.

“There is big competition amongst the players, we have brought in new players, one from Kafue Celtics, Francisco Mwepu and one from Forest Rangers, Benny Kolala and the left back Zacks Chilongozi from Kabwe Warriors.”

He said the game against Congo was a tough one but his boys were ready for it.

“It’s a big challenge but we are ready, we just have to put our heads together and we have to carry the day against Congo. We are considering the same players we fielded against Malawi,” said Chilumba.

Meanwhile, Zulu said it was about time the players put the country where they belong in terms of football.

“I want to ask them to bring pride to this country. Whatever support that we can give you, we are here, we have a technical team which is very competent. We will support you so that you bring the results that the country needs. We have put in place different programmes to ensure that you prepare adequately,” said Zulu.

“I was just speaking to the coach, there are a number of friendlies we are going to play in readiness for the game, and I hope we are ready because at the end of the day, we are judged by the performance of you guys, the players on the pitch. So put in your level best. Let us put this country where we belong in terms of football. We belong on the top and it is the responsibility of each and every one of you guys to put Zambia on top.”

The first leg of the qualifier will be played on June 5 in Congo while the return leg will on June 9 in Zambia.
The winner over two legs qualifies to the 2019 Under 23 AfCON.
