EASTERN Province NDC chairperson Samuel Lugomo-Phiri has urged farmers in the province not to sell their maize to Food Reserve Agency because it has no money.
And Phiri has urged police in Eastern Province not to harass his party’s members during Chishimba Kambwili’s visit to the area in two weeks’ time.
In an interview, Phiri urged farmers not to take their maize to FRA because the agency had no money.
“Let the people hold on to their maize because people will come to buy their maize not briefcase buyers but people will come and buy at a reasonable price. They should not be scared that FRA will come and buy and give them the money. Some people that took their maize to FRA last year have not been paid. Where will government get the other money to buy the current crop?” Phiri said.
He also announced that Kambwili would tour the province in the next two weeks.
“And as he comes, we don’t want to hear any conflicting ideas coming from the police service which is now serving the Patriotic Front as a PF conduit to harass innocent citizens that will be welcoming the president in the province. We have tried to go to the police to ask for permits but they have been giving us flimsy excuses which do not even hold water,” he said.
Phiri said as a registered party, the NDC was a voice for the voiceless.
