THE Football Association of Zambia has set June 8 for the play off to decide the winner of the 2019 transitional season. FAZ has also announced that winner of the league will pocket K500,000 while runners up will pocket K 350,000. According to a statement issued by FAZ communications manager Mwazi Chanda, all Super League teams would be given K200,000 each.
“The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has set Saturday, June 8, 2019 as the date for the coronation of the FAZ/MTN 2019 Transitional Super League champions. Winners of Stream A who are Zesco United will play Stream B champions Green Eagles to determine the champions while runners up in Stream B Buildcon will square off with Zanaco (Stream A),” Mwazi stated.
“Both matches will be played at National Heroes Stadium with the third and fourth play-off being a lunch-time kickoff. Winners of the Super League will walk away with K500,000 while the runners up will get K350,000. All the teams in the Super League are entitled to K200,000 under the revised deal that upped the package from K7,000.”
Chanda added that in the upcoming league, the number of teams goes back to 18 as in the previous season.
“The 2019/2020 Super League will have 18 teams as approved by the FAZ Council. Four teams have been relegated at the close of the transitional league namely MUZA, Circuit City, Kitwe United and Prison Leopards,” stated Chanda.
If Zesco play on the proposed day, the team would have to do so without most of their players including leading striker Lazarous Kambole who are engaged on national duties for the COSAFA Cup and the international friendly games that have been lined up for the Chipolopolo.
During the transitional league, FAZ divided the teams into two streams to meet the strict five month-period before transiting to the CAF/FIFA calendar which will see the season commencing in August and ending in May 2020.
