AFRICAN Union Commission chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat says Africa will remain grateful for Dr Kenneth Kaunda’s sacrificial role in the liberation of Southern Africa. Faki said the AU will honour Zambia’s founder president. He said the role that Dr Kaunda and Zambia played was in never in dispute and Africa will remain grateful for this sacrificial role. Faki was speaking when he received Letters of Credence from Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the AU Emmanuel Mwamba.
Faki directed his technical staff that if Dr Kaunda was missing in the narrative of the founding fathers of the Organisation of African Union, this should be corrected and any other initiatives to recognise should be supported. And Ambassador Mwamba requested the AU Commission to recognise and honour Dr Kaunda for his role as a founder member of the OAU and his role in the liberation of Southern Africa. He also appreciated the role that the Commission chairperson was playing in the ongoing reforms of the AU.
Ambassador Mwamba is also Zambia’s ambassador to Ethiopia and the Permanent Representative to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).
