DP criticises Lungu going on holiday

IT’S appalling and saddening to learn that the Republican President, Mr Edgar Lungu, has gone for a holiday in the midst of all challenges we face as a nation, says Democratic Party chairman-mobilization Ian Chapiya.

“We are reliably informed that His Excellency has gone for a holiday in Petauke at Nyavu Lodge on a very low-key arrangement,” Chipaya stated in a statement.

“I must hasten also to mention that the lodge is owned by his business associate.”

Chipaya wondered why President Lungu chose to take leave when council workers across the country remain unpaid for months and the Financial Intelligence Centre Trends Report 2018, which is an indictment on his corruption in government was staring in his face.

He also wondered why the President proceeded on leave when agro supply dealer have not been paid their K519m; 13,000 miners at KCM faced with a possible redundancy; the scandalous NDF Resolutions; CBU remains closed, and a run away dollar exchange rate and dwindling foreign reserves.

“I appeal to His Excellency, the father of the nation and also commander-in-chief to reconsider his position. The Zambians need answers and solutions, it’s bad enough that the Zambian people have been denied a decent press conference to address pertinent issues,” stated Chipaya.

I personally do not think it’s wrong for our head of state to go on holiday. In fact it is in times like this when he is under a lot of pressure that he needs a breather away from work so that he comes back refreshed to face up to the challenges of his demanding job. Let the President rest

I thought it is better to take leave when you have more pressing issues so that you refresh to take a new stance.
