HAKAINDE Hichilema says violence has been used against him by those in power to keep their power. But he says the time for the UPND is soon coming.
“Violence has been used against us on many occasions in order for those in power to keep their power,” Hichilema tweeted yesterday.
“Our time is soon coming and they must know that we will never use violence against them or anyone else.”
In an earlier message, Hichilema said even after “our brutal arrest and 127-day imprisonment under inhumane conditions, we made the choice to forgive President Edgar Lungu and his people.”
This was in reference to his detention in 2017 following an incident in Mongu when his entourage allegedly failed to give to President Lungu’s motorcade. Hichilema was charged with treason and spent several weeks at Mukobeko Maximum Prison in Kabwe. He was later released after the State entered a nolle prosequi following intervention from Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland.
“We need to allow for a Church mother body led dialogue process to strengthen our democracy. We are ready,” said Hichilema.
