Music lovers to savour Brandy

MUSIC lovers in Lusaka will this October sample some Brandy at the 2019 Stanbic Music Festival. The Grammy award-winner will headline the annual music gig scheduled for the Lusaka Polo Club on October 4 and 5. The ‘I Wanna Be Down’ singer will be joined by local artistes Afunika, Mampi, Izrael, Danny and Chef 187 for the sixth edition of the musical festival. Unveiling the 2019 SMF line-up at the bank’s head office in Lusaka yesterday, Stanbic public relations and communications manager Chanda Katongo said the festival is a unique platform for local talents to perform side-by-side with renowned international artistes.

“… and they learn a lot from each other – from arranging a concert to executing it on stage. It is one way local musicians can grow their influence beyond our borders,” said Katongo.

“We are sending a vibrant message while exposing Zambia to the world. The music festival gives Brandy and the local musicians an opportunity to share and sample Zambia’s music and culture around the globe.”

Yesterday’s meeting was attended by Zambia Association of Musicians president Tivo Shikapwasha and National Arts Council director Adrian Chipindi. Apart from being a singer, Brandy is also a songwriter, record producer, dancer and actress. Her 1998 album ‘Never Say Never’ became both her highest-selling album to date and won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for “The Boy Is Mine” featuring Monica. The album spawned another Number One hit “Have you ever”.

‘Never Say Never’ was followed by the success of her ‘Full Moon’ and ‘Afrodisiac’ albums.

Brandy’s scheduled appearance at this year’s festival follows in the footsteps of acclaimed artistes like the late Hugh Masekela, Oliver Mtukudzi, Earl Klugh, UB40, Boyz II Men, and last year’s headliners Brian McKnight and Joe Thomas, who have performed at the event.

Meanwhile, Stanbic is giving music lovers the opportunity to choose another international artiste to perform at the festival. Fans are to visit the Stanbic Facebook page to nominate an artiste of their choice and the star receiving the most votes will be invited to the festival by Stanbic Bank.
