POLICE in Chipata have finally arrested a witch-finder who has been conducting witch-hunting activities in Luangeni Constituency for the past two months. And Luangeni member of parliament Charles Zulu says witch-hunting activities should not be entertained because they bring unnecessary confusions among people.
Eastern Province police commissioner Luckson Sakala confirmed the arrest of the witch-finder yesterday.
“I can confirm that we arrested the witch-finder yesterday (Monday) and he is likely to appear in court on Thursday,” Sakala said without giving further details.
And Zulu said the arrest of the witch-finder has come at the right time.
“I would like to commend the police for apprehending this man. I know that some people have mixed feelings over the arrest of this witch-finder. What people should know is that this man was not helping the people in any way but was just promoting hatred among the people,” he said.
Zulu urged the people of Luangeni to be careful with people like the witch-finder adding that witch hunting was illegal in Zambia.
“I would like to urge the people of Luangeni to be very careful with such characters. You know this man was doing his witch hunting activities naked, in full view of the people, including children. For me, I will continue fighting such behaviour because it’s not right,” he said.
In May this year, Zulu said he was disturbed by the presence of a witch finder who was causing confusion among the people in the constituency.
“This witch finder should stop doing what he is doing because he is just fueling confusion among the people. We don’t want such activities in Luangeni because we are Christians and as Christians, we cannot entertain such things. The people are busy harvesting, gardening and
he wants to divide them,” said Zulu.
