CHINESE Ambassador to Zambia Li Jie has encouraged Chinese investors to come to Zambia especially the Copperbelt. Ambassador Li said this when he called on Copperbelt minister Japhen Mwakalombe at his office in Ndola on Thursday morning.
“Copperbelt is the economic engine of Zambia. The investors in China remain ideal for this. Copperbelt plays a role in the investment of the country. We would continue to encourage Chinese investors to come to Zambia and Copperbelt. The government of Chine supports the upgrading of infrastructure to obtain sustainable development,” said Ambassador Li.
And Mwakalombe told Ambassador Li that the province had a lot of opportunities. He said the government was happy with the works that AVIC was doing.
“AVIC has done a very good job at the airport. The challenges of the 20 per cent (subcontracting) has been resolved at a good rate. I want to assure you as provincial administration, that we will ensure that there is good relationship between the main contractor and subcontractors,” said Mwakalombe.
“Copperbelt has a lot of opportunities. Copperbelt has a lot of forests. But value addition has been a problem. What we saw in China is value addition in the timber sector, so we want those companies to come here. You know the challenges we have here in the Copperbelt of smuggling.”
The Chinese Ambassador is on a familiarization tour of the Copperbelt.
