THE 2019 Constitutional amendment bill is a sign of PF’s failure to govern the country, says Fr Turbuley Moonga.
And Fr Moonga, a former Catholic Priest of Ilondola Parish in Chinsali, now turned businessman, says it is sad that the PF government has continued not to listen to the voice of the people with regards the 2019 Constitutional amendment bill.
In an interview, Fr Moonga said the National Dialogue Forum (NDF) deliberations had only President Edgar Lungu’s continued stay in office in mind.
“Meddling in the Constitution every year is a sign of PF’s failure to govern. They are not listening to even the church; the NDF was only established with President Lungu’s continued stay in office in mind. They now want a constitution that will make the opposition very weak. I will not be surprised if they as PF parliamentarians even demand an increase in the term of office for the Head of State…. Zambia does not belong to Edgar Lungu, it’s for all Zambians and their views must be listened to. People are free to air their views,” Fr Moonga said.
He reminded the PF leadership that when out of office, they would not be protected by the police and other law enforcement agencies such as the Drug enforcement Commission and the Anti-Corruption Commission.
“The NDF was a waste of national resources. It’s saddening that the PF government has continued not to listen to the voices of the people with regards the amendment bill. Let me remind President Edgar Lungu and his PF party that the amendments that they have done to our Constitution are a serious breach of the rule of law. The PF has continued to sharpen their swords which will in turn cut them soon in 2021,” Fr Moonga noted.
He reminded the PF that Zambians had rejected the current Constitution but they did not listen and ended up taking it to Parliament.
“This PF organ (NDF) cannot end the suffering of the Zambian people. The problem of the PF is that they don’t listen to Zambians. The harassed Hakainde Hichilema over some trumped up charges of a traffic offence, they are also after
Chishimba Kambwili of the NDC and also Dr Fred M’membe of the Socialist Party. They must stop fearing innocent individuals, let them fear the problems that affect the Zambian people and immediately find a lasting solution to the suffering they have created,” said Fr Moonga.
