PROLIFIC Nkana striker and captain Walter Bwalya has left the club to join Egyptian club El Gouna Sporting club.
And Nkana have signed five players to beef up the team ahead of the 2019/20 season kicking off next month.
Bwalya leaves the club after four years of service where he won two Charity Shields as captain, the Barclays Cup, and helped them to a quarter final finish in last season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
According to a statement released by club’s public relations unit yesterday, the deal was concluded after Bwalya passed medicals in Cairo last week.
“NkANA FC have concluded a transfer deal for skipper Walter Bwalya who moves on a permanent arrangement to Egypt’s EL Gouna Sporting Club. The agreement was concluded after Bwalya successfully passed medical tests in Cairo,” club chief executive officer Charles Chakatazya was quoted in the statement. “Bwalya’s move becomes the second for Nkana FC this transfer window after Austin Muwowo who has joined Orlando Pirates. We would like to wish our captain Walter Bwalya and Austin Muwowo all the best with their respective new clubs. As a club we believe that even at their clubs they will excel.”
To beef up the squad, the Club has signed midfielder Zacharie Mombo Lusala from AS Vita of Congo DR on a two-year contract, defender Bakaki Shafik from SC VILLA of Uganda on a two-year contract, Collins Mulenga (defender) on a one-year loan deal from Green Eagles, Progress Kalenga (midfielder) on one-year loan from Green Eagles and Diamond Chikwekwe (striker) on a two-year loan from Green Buffaloes FC.
Chakatazya also announced that a striker from Congo Brazzaville has been training with the club and hoped that negotiations for his transfer to Nkana would soon be settled.
“We also have Jason Boukanga, a striker from Congo Brazzaville, who is currently training with the team with a hope of concluding a deal soon. We would like to welcome all the new players and wish them well during their stay at Nkana FC,” said Chakatazya.
Nkana are currently on one-week pre-season camping in Lusaka where they will play a series of friendlies.
