Police arrest Kapiri woman for aborting six months pregnancy

POLICE in Kapiri Mposhi have arrested a 22-year-old woman for allegedly aborting her six months pregnancy.

And a grade nine pupil at Chibwe Secondary School has allegedly committed suicide after being counseled against using a cell phone.

The woman identified as Blessings Chansa of Riverside Township in Kapiri Mposhi district allegedly aborted her pregnancy in the room at a named lodge in Kawama compound where she was a tenant.

The incident was reported to the police over the weekend by a general worker at the lodge who discovered the dead foetus in the toilet of the room where the suspect had lodged.

Central Province Commissioner of police Chola Katanga confirmed the incident that happened around 21:00 hours on Friday.

Katanga said police have since retrieved the remains of foetus and taken it to the hospital for examinations.

The suspect has been charged with infanticide and will appear in court soon.

The woman has since been admitted to Kapiri Urban Clinic for treatment after complaining of stomach pains.

“Facts are that the suspect had lodged at a lodge where she aborted the pregnancy in the toilet. The dead foetus was retrieved and taken to the hospital for examinations,” Katanga said.

And a grade nine pupil at Chibwe Secondary School has committed suicide for allegedly being counseled against using a cell phone.

Kakwelesa Ward councillor Benny Chiboni confirmed the incident in an interview and identified the deceased as Naomi Phiri, 18, of Mushalesa village in chief Mukonchi’s area.

Chiboni said the deceased allegedly took her life by consuming a maize herbicide after her parents scolded her against using a cell phone whilst in an examination grade.
