Chilikwazi accuses PF of intimidating political players through arrests

UPND member Costain Chilikwazi has accused the Patriotic Front government of intimidating political players.

In a statement, Chilikwazi charged that the Patriotic Front was intimidating leaders of opposition parties with a view to silence them and stop them from participating in the 2021 general elections.

He explained that leaders and members of opposition political parties were failing to freely engage in political activities, thereby giving leverage to the Patriotic Front.

“We know that the PF is doing everything possible to strengthen its political grip ahead of the 2021 general elections. They are arresting and intimidating leaders of opposition parties with a view to silence them and stop them from participating in the 2021 general elections. The PF leadership is now trying everything possible to silence NDC leader Chishimba Kambwili so that he does not participate in the 2021 general elections,” said Chilikwazi. “The PF’s continued arrests and intimidation of leaders of opposition political parties is making it difficult for opposition political party leaders to mobilise and engage in political activities, thereby giving an advantage to the ruling party to do party mobilisation.”

Chilikwazi further urged leaders of opposition political parties to unite ahead of the 2021 general elections.

“As members of opposition political parties, we shall continue giving solidarity to leaders in the opposition. We further want to urge leaders of opposition political parties to unite…we need unity of purpose ahead of the 2021 general elections,” added Chilikwazi.
