NKANA Squash Club will on September 28 host the Chairman’s Battle in Kitwe.
Zambia Squash Association secretary general Chomba Mwansa said the expected number is eight on the team event and 12 participants on the Chairman’s draw.
He urged sports minister Emmanuel Mulenga to make an effort to visit associations or hold meetings directly with them.
Mwansa said the government through the National Sports Council of Zambia should consider funding associations directly.
“Associations should be allowed to prepare and present budgets each year. After all this at the end of the year the Auditor General’s office should move in and check our books. This would enhance accountability. We hear this year-in year-out (support to minor sports) no change. So we are yet to see the deeds. I don’t remember when squash received any funding,” he said.
Mwansa said in countries like Kenya, the government pays EXCOs and funds them to all tournaments.
