FOOTBALL Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga has urged the senior women’s national team to stay focused and ensure that they reach the target of a historic qualification to the Olympics.
The FAZ Executive Committee has congratulated the Zambia Women National Team for qualifying to the fourth round of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifiers after defeating Botswana 2-0 away in Francistown.
He said the team had added to the remarkable performance shown by women teams at various levels in the country.
Kamanga said the victory takes the team closer to realising their dream of Olympic qualification which FAZ has placed a high premium on.
“On behalf of the FAZ Executive Committee and myself, I would like to congratulate the team for a job well done. We are proud of the progress that you continue to make in all the competitions you have participated in,” he said. “We can only encourage you to work even harder as the journey is still far from being complete. There are two more rounds which are more competitive. We urge you to stay focused and ensure that you reach the target of a historic qualification to the Olympics.”
The Copper Queens qualified to the next round on a 3-0 aggregate and will meet Kenya in the fourth round with Ivory Coast and Cameroon facing off in the other fixture.
Winners of the two fixtures will meet in the fifth round with the victor automatically qualifying to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics while the runner up will engage in a play-off with Chile.
