NKWAZI Cricket club are the champions of the Midlands Cricket Association after beating their rivals CPS.
Nkwazi batted first and managed to record 135 runs for 8 wickets in 25 overs.
Runs came from Captain Isaac Mwaba, who scored 25 runs, Godfrey Kandela contributed 24 runs and his brother, Gibson, 27.
Another player who contributed runs for Nkwazi was Sohail Munshi, who knocked 29 runs not out.
In reply, CPS came to bat hoping to chase the target but were restricted to only 113 runs, all out in 23 overs by the spirited Nkwazi bowling led by young Simon Manongo with his excellent spell of 5 overs 3 wickets.
Nkwazi Cricket Club won by 22 runs to clinch the title.
Nkwazi Cricket Club coordinator Godfrey Kandela said winning this year’s championship shows the hard work the team had put up during the season.
“We started not on a good note by losing our first match but we managed to pick up the pieces and coming to the fact that we were runners up last season and winning it this year, it’s good for us and the sponsors,” he said.
“It has not been an easy journey, you know, looking at [the fact that] we also lost several of our best players to other teams, so we went on search of young ones that have reached us here today,” said Kandela.
