THE government has pledged US$3,500 as winning bonus for Chipolopolo boys if they beat Algeria in next week’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

During the launch of the 2019/2020 Jersey by the Football Association of Zambia, sports minister Emmanuel Mulenga said the government has increased the winning bonus from $1,500 to $3,500.

“Following a meeting this morning (Tuesday), the President has instructed that the winning bonus be increased from $1,500 to $3,500 – that is almost K47,800 for each player,” he said
“This money will be deposited at the Ministry of Sports before the team travels to Algeria. Government wishes to ensure that all players and coaches are paid in time. There should be no arrears.”

Mulenga said President Lungu was confident that the team will succeed.

“In fact, it should be known that the FAZ patron His Excellency President Edgar Lungu is also confident that the team will succeed,” he said.

Mulenga said the government pledged its continued support to the sport and urged other associations to emulate the efforts made by FAZ to find new ways of sustaining sport development.

Chipolopolo boys face Algeria in the first game of the 2021 AfCON qualifiers on November 14 before taking on Zimbabwe days later.
