POLICE in Mazabuka have arrested three men who gang-raped a 17-year-old girl while she was out picking wild fruits with her two brothers.
Police spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo confirmed the arrest of Tryed Ngandu, 22, Vice Munene, 19, and Mabvuto Mitelembe, 17, all of Hangoma village in Chikankata.
The incident happened on Sunday around 11:00 hours in Gumba area under chief Hanjalika in Mazabuka and the suspects went on the run but were arrested on Monday.
“The victim who was in the company of her two brothers aged 19 years and 10 years went to Gumba area to pick wild fruits commonly known as masuku when they came across the three suspects who were armed with an iron bar and sticks and threatened to kill anyone who was going to shout,” Katongo revealed in a statement.
“The three suspects are alleged to have tied the two brothers…using fibre before raping the sister in their presence and later freed them with a warning of killing them if they revealed what transpired.”
Katongo said the trio is police custody charged in with rape and was yet to appear in court.
