UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema says commitment to a free press must be proven by our deeds and not “our words”.
He tweeted yesterday morning that: “commitment to a free press must be proven by our deeds and not our words. If the press was free, The Post would still be operational, ZNBC would be impartial and private media houses wouldn’t be threatened with closure. #Zambia.”
Yesterday, President Edgar Lungu hosted private and public media journalists at State House at a “get-together-event.”
On June 21, 2016, President Lungu’s government closed the privately-owned Post newspapers, using the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), on a pretext of tax arrears.
