Evergreen Boxing Club suffers break-in

THIEVES have broken into Evergreen Boxing Club and gotten away with kit and equipment worth over K10,000.

Speaking to The Mast, club deputy director Simataa Imbuwa said this has left over 60 young boxers stranded without kit and training equipment.

“I arrived at the gym around 07:00 hours and found the boxers outside. They told me thieves broke the wall to gain entry into gym and got away with training equipment,” he said.

Imbuwa said this has negatively affected the running of the gym.

“This gym has about 60 young boxers and losing 12 gloves, scale and other training equipment is a drawback. People have no mercy because I buy the kits alone, sacrificing for the kids so that they get a future from this gym but this will affect them negatively,” he said.

“We have remained with nothing for the gym to run, so we are asking from well-wishers who can come on board and bail us out because this gym has produced Catherine Phiri before she went to Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotion. Not only her, this gym has also produced the likes of Nene Mayonga who won gold medal last year in Botswana. Elizabeth Phiri also got a gold medal through this gym.”

Imbuwa has since reported the matter to police.
