THREE quarters of PF members including those who resigned from the party are not suitable for presidency, says Ludwig Sondashi.
He is now advising President Edgar Lungu to resign immediately,” because he has failed to govern the country”.
Sondashi, in a statement, stated that resigning was the most honourable way to hand over power and that President Lungu should not wait until he is disgraced because he can end up shattering his life and the lives of his family.
The Forum for Democratic Alternatives (FDA) leader said he had read in the newspapers with sadness and interest that Zesco was proposing to increase the tariffs to the public as a way of raising money because it is now an impoverished company.
He stated that he had also seen that Zesco had increased the load-shedding timetable because of the same.
“These matters are of great importance to the nation and require solutions to them immediately. Although I am not feeling well because I have suffered for the past two years from a series of six repeated strokes and also from the operation of the knees which was not properly done as per the recent revelation in Britain where I had gone to seek medical attention, nevertheless, the problems in Zambia are increasing every day and I cannot leave to a few people to fight them alone. Hence my commenting and making few suggestions on the way forward about Zesco’s economic crisis,” Sondashi stated.
“To understand Zesco’s economic problems, one has just got to look at the recent past. Zesco has always been an economic parastatal since the [Dr Kenneth] Kaunda times up to the time of [Levy] Mwanawasa. It was the Patriotic Front under President Lungu who siphoned money from it and used it for political reasons and campaigns including paying cadres to carry out all sorts of atrocities, such as promoting violence and making it difficult for the opposition parties to function. So, if as everybody in Zambia knows, including the opposition parties, that it is President Lungu and the PF who misused money in Zesco, to the extent that it has now remained an impoverished company, and even to the extent that it cannot exist without troubling the general public to contribute unnecessary money for it to survive by raising tariffs and unending load-shedding, then it is the PF and its leader who should find the money to give to Zesco to improve its economic shortfall and not by asking the already overtaxed general public to find the money.”
Sondashi stated that it was not up to him to suggest where the money could come from.
“The President is qualified to look for sources where he can find money to give to Zesco because he is the one who got money from it and he is the one who is running the country. This is how national crisis begins. Next will be failure to pay civil servants on time and so on and so forth. If the President fails to find that money, then he is not fit to govern and my humble and non-political advice is to suggest that he resigns immediately, because he has failed to govern the country. This is the most honourable way to hand over power and he should not wait until he is disgraced, because he can end up shattering his life and the lives of his family. No one wants to see this happen. He should find a capable person to hand over power though, because in our view, three quarters of the PF members including those who resigned from the PF party are not suitable for presidency,” stated Sondashi.
