THREE out of five countries that were invited for this weekend’s Chinese Ambassador’s International Table Tennis championship to be held at the Olympic Youth Development Centre have confirmed their participation.
Zambia Table Tennis Association last week had invited Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi and Botswana for the tournament.
ZTTA vice-president Wisdom Kaunda said so far three countries had confirmed for their participation in the tournament.
“So far three countries will be in the country. As I am speaking we have a contingent of two players coming in from Kenya and we are expecting five players from Tanzania, then we also have a confirmation from Zimbabwe but we don’t know yet how many players will be coming. So far those are the three countries that have confirmed and we still wait on others that we invited,” said Kaunda.
The championship will have five categories – women’s and men’s singles, women’s and men’s doubles, mixed doubles, under 13 boys and girls and the Under 17.
The tournament will also be used to pick 10 Zambian players that will represent the country at the African Union Sports Council Region 5 games in Lesotho.
