THIS is our season, said UPND elections committee chairman Gary Nkombo, on the back of announcing the opposition party’s Milenge council by-election candidate.
Nkombo, the Mazabuka Central member of parliament, disclosed that the party adopted Brave Nsamba for the December 5 Milenge council by-election in Luapula Province.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of PF council chairman Fidelis Chanda last month.
Candidates for the election will file their nomination papers in Milenge today.
“The UPND has settled for Mr Brave Nsamba, a long-standing member of the party to contest the Milenge council by-election. I would also like to announce that our deputy chairperson for local government and housing Mr Brian Ndumba has also been appointed as the campaign manager for that particular election, to be deputised by Mr Matthew Welesongwe,” Nkombo told journalists at the UPND secretariat in Lusaka yesterday.
“We are quite hopeful that the people of Milenge are abreast with the type of leadership that we are experiencing. Come on that day of the vote, they will do the wise thing and so, it’s our anticipation that we’ll carry the day because this is our season.”
Meanwhile, Nkombo, who was suspended for 10 days from Parliament on Tuesday, described the development as a temporary setback.
His suspension is due to unparliamentary conduct.
“It is a temporary setback. First of all, I’m a big boy. I just feel sorry for the people of Mazabuka because right now, their voice has been put down. It is a good thing they have given me a sabbatical – tomorrow morning (today) I take a trip to visit my constituency,” said Nkombo.
“Come the day when my suspension is over, that Parliament will vibrate once again.”
