CHIPOLOPOLO Under 20 national team coach Osward Mutapa has ruled out the possibility of any international friendly ahead of the COSAFA youth championship slated for next month.
Speaking to the media in Lusaka yesterday after taking the team through paces in the morning, Mutapa who also tutored the Under 17 boys to silverware at a similar championship in Malawi last month said his team was injury free.
“We had small knocks but they are all okay now. We have just started training this week. The whole of last week we were just assessing who was available for selection, looking at their attitude and performance,” he said.
“This week we will be training and maybe we will have one or two training games. The friendlies have helped us to select the best players. For us to select players we need to see them playing in a game and we played six or so games last week and we have come up with 26 which at the end of the week we shall be able to trim to 20 and name the final team.”
On international friendlies, Mutapa said: “Playing any international friendly is not possible, we shall deal with the local clubs in the Premier League.”
Zambia will host the regional tournament from December 4-14 and will be one of the favourites to lift the title they last won in 2016.
